Ports O' Call $100M Revitalization Project Unveiled

The Ports O’ Call in San Pedro is about to get a $100M makeover. Executives from The Ratkovich Co, including Wayne Ratkovich, and Jerico Development, along with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city officials gathered yesterday to unveil new renderings and provide details about the project.

The Ports O’ Call Village will be renamed the San Pedro Public Market. It will include a 30-acre retail and dining destination on San Pedro's waterfront.

Phase 1 of the project will have 16 acres of restaurants, shops, office space and markets. There also will be a more than half-mile waterfront promenade.

There will be plenty of outdoor space as part of the San Pedro
Public Market. Plans include an open-air amphitheater for concerts and family-friendly entertainment.

The Ratkovich Co COO Clare DeBriere tells Bisnow the goal is for the project to become a destination for Angelenos.

She says it lines up perfectly with the company's mission to profitably produce developments that aim to improve the quality of urban life.

There are also plans to bring back San Pedro's Waterfront Red Car, which operated for 12 years and shut down last year.

Clare describes the Red Car as a beloved feature of San Pedro that local residents were disappointed to see stop running. She says it was important to the Ratkovich Co and Jerico Development to revive the historic trolleys.

Phase 1 of the revitalization project is designed by Tim J. Delaney Design and TFO Architecture. (Wayne Ratkovich is pictured on the left with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city officials at yesterday's press conference.)

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017.

The San Pedro Public Market (shown here in an aerial rendering) is expected to open in 2020.
