Deliveroo Doubles Up On RooBox

Deliveroo will double the number of RooBox kitchens to 20 by the end of 2016.

RooBox provides restaurants with delivery-only kitchens; the innovation is deployed in areas of high consumer demand where there is low restaurant supply. The initiative allows restaurants to avoid the costly overhead traditionally associated with opening a new brick-and-mortar site, while customers benefit from a greater selection of food.

For Deliveroo customers, RooBox works just like a traditional restaurant on the app, with orders arriving on average 30 minutes after the order was placed.

Tommi’s Burger Joint owner Valgard Sorensen (shown) says RooBox offers his business a fantastic opportunity to promote itself in areas beyond its normal reach. “We are able to offer a quality menu to a new market without the risks of committing to another location. We are looking to expand and RooBox has enabled us to test a local market and make informed business decisions.”

Deliveroo also launched Brew House in partnership with Heineken, a service that will allow customers to order beer and cider directly to their homes. Brew House launched in London today and will be rolled out across the rest of the UK by the end of this year. The new venture was preceded by Deliveroo’s deals with Majestic Wines and BrewDog, which were finalized in July.
