Fatburger, a Los Angeles-based burger concept, plans to open 25 locations throughout Texas, according to parent company FAT Brands Inc. The new-to-market locations will include Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.

“The great state of Texas has spoken, and we are answering by developing 25 new Fatburger locations for the market,” FAT Brands CEO Andy Wiederhorn said in a release. “We are thrilled to offer our delicious, homemade burgers to Texans for many years to come.”

The company is partnering with Dallas-based Croft Ventures LLC, the parent company of Famous Franchises LLC.

“Texas is one of the fastest-growing states in the country and we can’t wait to turn Fatburger into its new staple burger joint,” Croft Ventures CEO Curtis Croft said. “We are ready to expand Fatburger to the state where everything is bigger. This is the next BIG chapter for FAT Brands and Famous Franchises.”

Fatburger founder Lovie Yancey started the burger concept more than 70 years ago in Los Angeles. Each burger is made to order with add-on items such as bacon, onion rings, cheese and egg. Fatburger has more than 200 locations worldwide.

This is the second burger joint from California to expand in Texas.

After years of anticipation, In-N-Out Burger will make its Houston debut at The Grid, a $500M redevelopment project in Stafford. The second and third locations will be in Katy and Willowbrook, according to Culture Map. Austin-based Hat Burger Co. announced four locations in Houston in 2018, adding to the burger rush.

Texas burger wars will continue as national chains such as Shake Shack and Hopdoddy and local joints like The Burger Joint and Buffburger divide the market share with Whataburger and other existing chains.
