After years of anticipation, Houston's newest skyscraper, 609 Main at Texas, finally made its grand debut Wednesday night. The event was split thematically into four zones; water, earth, air and fire. At the center of festivities, representing earth, was William Close, who turned the Main Street atrium into a soaring string instrument called the Earth Harp.

The tower's conference center was the stage of a specially commissioned piece of performance art by Dirt Dogs Theatre Company, which acted out a hilarious boardroom meeting fiasco for guests throughout the evening. Water was represented by a lengthy infinity edge fountain with floating candles, while air was represented by gathering areas with freshly spun cotton candy and liquid nitrogen ice cream. Thematically dressed fitness models squired guests through the building’s new gym, which represented fire.
The 1M SF LEED Platinum building is Hines' 21st ground-up development in Downtown Houston since 1971. It is roughly 60% pre-leased and is Hines' new Southwest regional office.
