Houston Chronicle Building Undergoing (Much Needed) Renovation

Windows have been carved into the West Loop-facing façade of the former Houston Post and current Houston Chronicle building. The newspaper’s staff will relocate to the Brutalist building sometime early in 2016. [Swamplot]

Upper Kirby Preps For Wrecking Ball

Three Upper Kirby buildings are all set for demolition: 2600 Southwest Freeway, 3930 Kirby and 3910 Kirby—also known as Corporate Plaza I, II and III. Indian restaurant Madras Pavilion previously occupied 3910 Kirby; its Sugar Land location remains open. [Chron]

East Houston Booming With Industrial Deals

Four industrial land deals were signed on Dec. 23. Nearly 81 acres on Highway 90 switched hands from Williams Brothers Construction to Miller Road Realty. Stone Paving USA leased 12k SF at 7241 Clinton Dr,  Mantua Manufacturing Co leased 36k SF at 7201 Clinton Dr, and CD Polytech took nearly 11k SF at 7139 Clinton Dr. [HBJ]

Conroe Annexes 1,564 Acres

The City of Conroe is annexing 12 tracts of land, including four residential sites, one commercial tract, three undeveloped tracts, a landfill, a school, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds and a stretch of I-45. The mayor says the annexing is necessary to grow the city economically and distribute the cost of maintaining city services and facilities that are used by those residents. [TAMU]

Pearland Airport To Add Hangars

Pearland Regional Airport launched its effort to improve, starting with construction of a new 23-unit hangar complex. Texas Aviation Partners, the airport management team, started taking reservations for the hangars earlier this year. [Chron]

Building Sold in Crosswell’s New Conroe Project

The Dailey Oil Tools building, a 60k SF office project in a NewQuest Crosswell business park in Conroe, sold. This marks further expansion northward from the mini-boom created by ExxonMobil’s move to The Woodlands. [RNR]

Houston Builders Added 10% More Housing in Four Years

Houston-area builders racked up more permits for new houses and apartments between 2011 and 2014 than every other large US metro, equal to almost 10% of Houston’s supply in 2010. A Forbes report ranked large US metros by the number of new single- and multifamily permits relative to their existing housing supply. By that measure, Houston came in third and Austin took the top spot. [Forbes]

Tacodeli Moves In, Burnishes Houston’s Cred As Taco Town

Another Tex-Mex option has hit Houston. Austin-based Tacodeli is taking up residence at 1902 Washington Ave amid a cluster of upscale restaurants and cocktail bars, in the former Drake Nightclub. Competition includes Torchy’s Tacos, Velvet Taco and Fuzzy’s Taco.
