Houston BOMA was recognized by BOMA International with the outstanding government affairs committee award for the second year in a row. Above, JLL’s Mary Stanton, Transwestern’s Brett Williams (Houston BOMA prez), and BOMA’s Tammy Betancourt visited Capitol Hill in February, where they met with nine Houston-area senators and congressmen. On the org’s agenda: property valuations. Those increased 53% city-wide last year and are projected to grow more in 2014. (We finally trimmed our hedges, but that can't account for such a leap.) Tammy tells us that’s raising the cost of doing business for everyone, and is making Houston less attractive to invest in.
