The Hill is getting artsy.
The mixed-use center in North Dallas at North Central Expressway and Walnut Hill Lane is working with local artists to add murals throughout its 275K SF shopping district.
Five artists so far have put their mark on the project, creating 25 murals in The Hill. The landlord, an affiliate of CAPREF Manager, is looking for new artists to bring the public art display up to 33 murals.
The artists that have already been chosen are Wheron, Haylee Yale Ryan, Drigo, Dr. Gorilla and Brennen Bechtol. Much of their work plays on nature, tying in with The Hill's outdoor spaces and commitment to sustainability. Treehouse, The Hill's anchor tenant, won the Texas Society of Architects' 2018 Design Award in June for LRK and Lake Flato's sustainable design.

Installation of the artwork has begun and will continue for several months, and the public is invited to watch the process live.
Public art is increasingly being considered an important amenity in commercial real estate. While most landlords say adding art doesn't have a direct financial benefit, murals, statues and other pieces of art in, on and around buildings can increase buzz, connect the property to its community, serve as advertising in lieu of signage and increase the rate of leases signed. Art can turn properties into destinations.
