| Lower Manhattan is known for its numerous—and sometimesunsightly—building projects. But yesterday, The Alliance for Downtown New York announced the installation of Tatyana Murray’sAquatic Dream, a 1,165-foot-long mural printed on vinyl mesh along wire fencing at the Hudson Street Reconstruction project on Hubert Street between Washington and Hudson Streets. This is the latest in the Alliance’s Re:Construction program, which began in ’07 and has produced 22 art pieces that recast construction sites as canvases for public art and architecture. The project is funded by a $1.5M grantfrom the Lower Manhattan Development Council, and is available for any site south of Houston Street. Currently, there are 13 pieces of artwork installed, at places like 50 West Street, the W Hotel New York-Downtown, 99 Church Street, 50 Trinity Place, and the East River Waterfront Esplanade.
