Congratulations, Lincoln Park! You're getting a Target. The retail giant announced plans to open a 32k SF store at 2650 N Clark St, which formerly housed a Best Buy. The store is part of a push by the company to expand in Chicago and other major markets by opening smaller locations.
These stores used to be branded as CityTarget and TargetExpress before the retailer simply rebranded them as Target stores, Crain's reports. Other big-box retailers have expanded in major markets with a similar strategy, notably Walmart with its Walmart Express stores.
Target already has two smaller stores in Chicago, at the Sullivan Center in the Loop and the former Fox & Obel space in Streeterville. A third Target will open at 3200 N Clark in October 2016. It has 18 smaller-format stores across the country with another 14 planned. [Crain's]
