We stopped by the International Council of Shopping Centers (or ICSC, if you're too busy looking for sales to say the whole thing) 2011 Mid-Atlantic Conference yesterday at the Gaylord in National Harbor, and snapped Pollo Tropical?s Chris Hogarth with The Rappaport Cos? Henry Fonvielle. Pollo Tropical specializes in ?Floribbean? chicken (Florida cuisine with Caribbean ingredients), with an eye to expand to the Baltimore metro. Chris tells us they love the Towson, Glen Burnie, and Timonium submarkets and require 30k SF of space, preferring to purchase or ground lease.

Big Lots? Jeff Powers (with Merrifield Patrick Vermillion's Eric Nichols) says the discount retailer opened 80 stores nationwide in 2010, with plans to open 80 more this year. Jeff has four deals in lease negotiations and thinks the Baltimore/DC region could support 40 more Big Lot stores. Eric represents AAA, which is opening freestanding retail units that include light car care service and membership sales offices. He tells us he recently finished deals in Annapolis and Towson (both 12k SF) and has 12 in the pipeline across the Baltimore and DC areas.
