| Earlier this week at our data center event in Northern VA, we snapped some Baltimoreans: Clovis? Kris Kurcoba with Baltimore Technology Park?s James Gohng and Josh Hirsch. Josh tells us his 30k SF facility (located just south of M&T Bank Stadium) has "eight fiber-based carriers, with two more moving in by the end of the year,? he says, "which makes us the most connected data center in Baltimore.? The development is at 60% capacity, which Josh chalks up to its proximity to fiber and two power substations. Its sister project in Philadelphia is at 50% capacity; it's expected to be full within nine months. |
| 630 data center diehards packed the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church to hear industry all-stars like AOL's Michael Manos, Digital Realty Trust's Andrew Schaap, and US Army cybersecurity chief Hari Bezwada. Consolidation is the name of the game for users, and that means data center space is getting denser (leading to more power consumption). As for the 800 federal data centers that are getting shut down over the next four years, our panelists say most are functionally obsolete. And it doesn't mean government demand is waning: The intelligence community, in particular, needs more space, and Lee Technologies prez George Newstrom says he can't think of any agencies that have significant excess capacity on their hands.
