A long-running effort to find a new use for the Seaholm Intake Facility on the shore of Lady Bird Lake downtown has ramped up again. Austin Parks and Recreation Department has called for proposals from developers who want to take a spin at making the former industrial building into a public facility, according to the Austin Business Journal.
Built in the 1950s, the Art Deco building was once used as a hydroelectric power plant but has sat idle since 1989. Attempts to utilize the building have been ongoing since 1996, when the site was decommissioned.
The city previously issued requests for solicitations in January 2015. The new request for solicitation is expected to be released in spring 2016. [ABJ]
