DMA Development Co hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its next affordable residential development today at 11am. The project, Aldrich 51, is part of the Mueller Affordable Homes Program and will be DMA’s second affordable multifamily development within the program.

Aldrich 51 will offer 240 units, 85% of which will be occupied by residents who earn 30% to 60% of Austin’s median family income. On the west side of Aldrich between Barbara Jordan Boulevard and 51st Street, it's between numerous employment areas, including Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and Mueller’s Regional Retail Center. Aldrich 51 will provide a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments complete with nine-foot ceilings and in-unit washer/dryer hookups.

The City of Austin contributed $4M to Aldrich 51, a sign of the city’s dire need for more affordable housing communities that don't sacrifice a high standard of living. Mueller, on the site of Austin’s former airport, is a joint project between the City of Austin Economic Development department and Catellus Development that is planned to include 5,900 single-family and multifamily homes, at least 25% of which will be part of the Mueller Affordable Homes Program.
