| One of Atlanta's most historic buildings is also one of the most environmentally friendly. The Hurt Building downtown, built in 1913 and perhaps best known for its stunning marble lobby, has been given the Earth Award for the Southern Region from BOMA. (It's now in the running for BOMA International Earth Award, announced at the BOMA convention in Long Beach later this month.) The 18-story office tower is one of the earliest skyscrapers in Atlanta and was built by philanthropist and pioneer financier Joel Hurt. (Tidbit: It's also a flatiron building, meaning it sits on a triangular site with the lobby/rotunda at the apex.) Other awards: noted as the first commercial office building in Georgia to receive LEED EB Gold; and received Energy Star four years running.
