Driving For More

TopGolf is adding two more  Atlanta golf entertainment complexes outside of the one it's developing in Alpharetta. We spoke with TopGolf's  Randy Starr, who has already broken ground on the  60k SF facility at 1050 Westside Pkwy. In the 102 bays, players drive a ball with an  RDIF chip toward targets, meaning immediate feedback. And while the company seeks sites with affluent and young demographics, Randy says 60% of its customer base are actually non-golfers. "One of the reasons we liked Alpharetta is it's such a corporate hub, a lot of young people up there."The Shopping Center Group's  Ruth Coan  and  Gail Fargason brokered the deal for TopGolf (which stands for Target Oriented Practice). As for the two more metro sites, Ruth tells us they've centered on West Midtown and Gwinnett County, where they're still vetting sites  around the Highway 316 interchange. And that's not so easy, given the specific requirements: a driving range 450-feet long and 900-feet wide that's not within a flood plain (that will damage the RDIF chips in the balls); and  parking for 300 vehicles.
