| News broke late yesterday that Cousins Properties and its partnership have been selected by the Georgia Dept of Transportation to help transform the Gulch. Cousins competed for the project in a partnership with Integral Group and Forest City against some of the city's biggest development names, including famed downtown developer HJ Russell and The Dawson Co and Jacoby Development with the John Buck Co. Cousins also has history with the Gulch property, having previously attempted to buy and develop the land for Norfolk Southern in 2003. Earlier this year, the DOT issued an RFP for a master developer for the 110 acresround the Richard B. Russell Federal Building downtown including The Gulch parcels to become a transit hub-focused mixed-use project. Now negotiations begin between the Cousins partnership and the DOT on what exactly the project will look like, a DOT official tells us. |
