The Redesigned Two Penn Plaza Will Have A Façade That Splays Out Like A Dress

Penn Station and the area around it have been buzzed about a lot since January, when a $3B overhaul of the station was first announced. We now know what a key part of it will look like, thanks to new renderings from Bjarke Ingels Group posted by NY Yimby.

Two Penn Plaza, the 1.6M SF office tower that sits directly above a portion of Penn Station, is owned by Vornado. Vornado has indicated it will undertake redesigns of One and Two Penn Plaza, but this is the public’s first taste of how either building’s new iteration may look.

BIG’s renderings include two possible looks for the building’s new glass and steel cladding, which both involve its surface splaying outward toward the bottom, kind of like a dress blown around by the wind. Is the design a reference to the nearby Garment District? Unclear. What is clear is that it will help protect pedestrians and train travelers from the elements along Seventh Avenue. [NYY]
