New Rezoning Plan For The Garment District?

The de Blasio administration has reportedly been working on a rezoning plan in the Garment District.

The plan, which could ease regulations on manufacturers, could be filed as soon as April, according to Crain’s New York Business.

The plan is connected with the Made in New York Campus, a recently unveiled effort to bring 200k SF of low-rent garment manufacturing to Sunset Park.

When that plan was announced, there was no mention of a rezoning plan for Manhattan’s Garment District.

A similar plan tried to rezone the area in 2009, but opposition from commercial landlords stopped that plan from coming to fruition.

Sources tell Crain’s the aim is for a proposal that preserves the area’s status as a manufacturing center but does not add new density.
