The 2002 Jodie Foster film Panic Room was more prophetic than we may have realized. Safe rooms are becoming the nation's newest luxury amenity. Firms like Tom Gaffney's Gaffco Ballistics and husband-and-wife team Al and Lana Corbi's SAFE (Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments) will design a hidden space in your home to protect you from any intruder. The rooms have architectural details and fine woodwork to disguise the fact that it's a fully fortified foxhole with 24-hour video surveillance and remote controlled automatic locks and security shutters. And if you really want to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, consider the more overt designs of war vet and former cop Karl Alizade's CitySafe.
