Lawmakers May Push 421a Deadline

New York

Lawmakers have yet to reach a deal on expiring rent regulations, and are looking to push the deadline to Wednesday at midnight. Meanwhile, Gov. Cuomo is still trying to broker a mega-deal that would tie rent regs, the 421a tax abatement, a tax credit for educational expenditures, an increase in the cap on charter schools, criminal justice reform, mayoral control of New York City schools and $100M to help distressed school districts, Capital New York reports. Cuomo explained: "Nothing moves until everything moves," saying that once they can reach an agreement on several items, everything should be able to move forward. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has said that he and his colleagues would consider extending the existing wall by two days, but spokespeople for Gov. Cuomo and Senate Republican leader John Flanagan have not said whether they would pass the measure. [CapNY]
