Harlem's Studio Museum to Get New David Adjaye-Designed Building

New York

The Studio Museum in Harlem is partnering with the city to build a new five-story, 71k SF facility at its current location on West 125th Street. The city is donating $35.3M to the project, which will be designed by David Adjaye. The state-of-the-art museum's design, which is subject to city approval, will include custom-built gallery space and expanded public space for educational programs, the New York Daily News reports. The expansion is a welcome one for the 50-year-old museum, which has long since outgrown its existing space. Construction is expected to begin by 2017. [NYDN]
