COLUMBIA TEAM MAKES ULI FINALS
ULI Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition - "The Post" by Columbia
Four graduate-level student teams have been chosen as finalists for the 10th annual ULI Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition, including one from NYC’s own Columbia University(joining them are University of California-Berkeley, University of Michigan, and a JV of University of Colorado and Harvard). The challenge: propose a long-term vision for a new downtown Houston district by creating the best use of roughly 16 acres owned by the US Postal Service. Columbia wants to maintain the existing USPS office building and convert it into The Post, above, a center for artists, workshops, and incubator office space. Also on the drawing board: cinemas, eateries, residential development for 2,500, and a small-vendor produce market. The winners of the competition, which concludes April 6, get $50,000.
