Billionaire and Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert made an offer to Wayne County officials — let him build a $1B soccer stadium complex on the construction site of Detroit’s newest jail and he will help build a $420M criminal justice center across town.
The complex would include a stadium, a hotel, a retail center, an office building and a residential tower, ConstructionDive reports. While Wayne County officials denied the deal last year, they may be more accepting now considering budget overruns forced them to halt construction on the $300M jail. If the deal moves forward it will be one of many developments expanding across downtown Detroit.
