Houston Texans, Howard Hughes Partner On New Practice Facility, Mixed-Use District

Houston’s NFL team will develop a new headquarters and practice facility in an 83-acre entertainment destination in Bridgeland, Howard Hughes Communities’ master-planned community northwest of Houston.

Toro District will have a mix of retail, restaurant, hotel, entertainment and commercial space and be developed through a partnership of Howard Hughes, Harris County and the Houston Texans.

The headquarters and practice facility, including indoor facilities and outdoor fields, will occupy 22 of the district’s 83 acres.

The project is expected to generate $34B in long-term economic impact and create more than 17,000 jobs across the region.

Bridgeland is an 11,500-acre master-planned community in the Cypress area, between U.S. Highway 290 and Interstate 10. It has about 50,000 residents.

Toro District will be within Bridgeland Central, the community’s emerging core that late last year became home to One Bridgeland Green, the MPC’s first office building. The community’s first H-E-B opened in the district about a year earlier.

"This is not just a headquarters. It is a statement about where Houston is going," Howard Hughes CEO David O'Reilly said in a press release.

"Toro District will create jobs, strengthen infrastructure, expand access to services, and deliver a gathering place that families will enjoy for generations," he added.

The Texans plan to participate in the development of Toro District through an affiliate. The organization plans to break ground later this year and open the facility in 2029, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The Texans currently practice at Houston Methodist Training Center, a facility near NRG Stadium, where the team plays.

The Woodlands-based Howard Hughes Holdings is the parent company of Howard Hughes Communities, a developer, owner and operator known for its master-planned communities. The company is responsible for 118,000 acres, 6,000 multifamily units, 406,000 residents and over 10M SF of office and retail space across five states.
