Structured Development signed a lease with San Francisco-based Planet Granite for a 40K SF climbing gym at The Shops at Big Deahl, Structured's planned mixed-use center in Lincoln Park's Halsted Triangle. Planet Granite is Structured's first tenant at the 200K SF development at the corner of Blackhawk and Dayton streets.

Planet Granite plans to break ground on the three-level gym in spring 2019; it will be among the largest climbing facilities in the U.S. It will feature roped climbing, bouldering, yoga and fitness as well as a retail shop.

The Shops at Big Deahl is named for the property's former owner, Big Deahl Productions. Structured Development acquired a 40K SF building at 855 West Blackhawk last August and is incorporating it into the Big Deahl redevelopment. Structured has been one of the most active developers in the Halsted Triangle area centered at the intersection of North and Clybourn avenues and Halsted Street. The firm has developed over 1M SF in the area, most notably the NEWCITY development.

Recreation and sporting has emerged as an in-demand retail class in the Halsted Triangle. Planet Granite joins a 57K SF Dick’s Sporting Goods, which anchors NEWCITY. REI recently leased a 40K SF building a half-block south at 1422 North Kingsbury. An iFly indoor skydiving complex is at 800 West Scott.

The Shops at Big Deahl is expected to be completed in 2020.
