RUDDICK SLIPS INTO FORTUNE 500
Matthews-based Ruddick Corp., parent of the Harris Teeter grocery chain, makes it into the Fortune 500
Matthews-based Ruddick Corp, parent of the Harris Teeter grocery chain, recently worked its way into the Fortune 500, hitting 498th with annual revenues of $4.4B. Ruddick joins seven other Fortune500 companies calling the Mecklenburg County area home. The eight firms together place Charlotte in a tie for sixth among US cities withFortune 500-HQ'd companies. Only New York (45), Houston (22), Dallas (10), Atlanta (10), and Minneapolis (10) have more. Charlotte ties with Chicago, St. Louis, and San Francisco. ?If the DNC?s decision to come to Charlotte did not make you realize Charlotte is no longer a mid-sized city, the new ranking should,? Charlotte Chamber research VP Tony Crumbley says. ?Here is a homegrown company moving into the ranks of the big boys."
