Another piece of MetLife's massive Midtown project is getting underway.

The firm filed permits with the city of Atlanta to begin construction on the 12-story boutique hotel that is part of Midtown Union, the large mixed-use corporate campus at the intersection of Spring and 17th streets that also includes a 26-story, 600K SF office tower anchored by Invesco.

Stormont Hospitality Group President Jim Stormont said the firm is in final talks with a lifestyle boutique hotel operator to run the new property. He declined to name the company, and permits do not identify an operator.

MetLife and Granite Properties broke ground in November on the 8.5-acre Midtown Union project that also is set to include a 355-unit apartment tower, being developed by StreetLights Residential, and 30K SF of retail.

Invesco inked a lease to occupy 300K SF of Midtown Union's office tower last year, with plans to move its world headquarters out of Two Peachtree Pointe by 2022.
