Atlanta

Comcast is officially headed to SunTrust Park with more than 1,000 jobs—most of which will be new for the region.

Both Gov. Nathan Deal and Atlanta Braves Chairman/CEO Terry McGuirk announced this morning that the telecom giant will be the sole occupant of a new nine-story office building in the mixed-use portion of the Braves stadium. The space will include an Innovation Lab for Comcast, home to the company's engineers, software writers and other technology employees, and will be the main hub for the telecom's R&D network that also includes Silicon Valley, Philadelphia and Denver, officials say. The space also will include up to 20k SF of retail and two data centers, and provide a multi-terabit network throughout the mixed-use park.

The deal consummates what we first reported here last month, and represents further consolidation of Comcast's corporate presence in Metro Atlanta. Earlier this year, Comcast consolidated its HQ in Peachtree Corners, securing 6200 The Corners Pkwy, a 143k SF building that was formerly the home to Wells REIT. And the deal puts Comcast in a prominent signage position at SunTrust Park, not only on the office building, but on the stadium as well, with its Xfinity brand logo.
