Reach!

We went to Busboys & Poets on 14th Street for a celebration of a new book, Reach: 40 Black Men Speak on Living, Leading, and Succeeding. We snapped its editors, Trabian Shorters (former Knight Foundation VP who left to found the BMe Community) and Ben Jealous (former NAACP head) bookending Participant Media SVP Karla Ballard (who just got engaged – congrats!)

A fascinating discussion, led by Jeff Johnson, talked about the 40 stories in the book of Black men who are community builders, sharing their stories, their vulnerabilities, their fears, and their accomplishments to inspire others. The book has a foreword by Russell Simmons and stories by John Legend, Van Jones, Lou Gossett, Isiah Thomas, Shaka Senghor, Bill T. Jones, Rev. Tony Lee, and many others. It's on Amazon. And Busboys served a delicious dinner of blackened salmon, wild rice, kale salad, and brownies.
