Yesterday we went to McKinley Tech High School for the Dreams for Kids annual Holiday for Hope, one of the largest celebrations for underprivileged kids in the DC area. All participants enjoyed a holiday feast, a day of entertainment and a bag of gifts. We snapped volunteers/Board members Andrew Smith and David Gould, DFK-DC founder Glenda Fu, Santa AKA Troy Price, volunteer Carrie Matthews, McKinley Tech Executive Coordinator Rosalind Lyle and Board member Joanna Gonzales.

Over 300 kids and their families came to this year’s celebration, plus over 300 volunteers. Positive mentors spending the day with the kids included reigning Miss DC Ciera Nicole Butts and Miss DC Teen Dominick Fink, here with participants Madeline, Jerrah, Shakaliah, Jessica, Kiese, Tainiya, Janiya and Shimere.

Dreams for Kids DC organizes free activities to empower children with disabilities to unite with peers and realize their full potential. Recently elected Delegate of Maryland’s 47th District Diana Fennell came with her daughter, Miss DC USA 2015 competitor DeJanee Fennell, to spend the afternoon with kids like Amara and volunteer Guest House Events’ Arthur Tamayo.

Alfredo Flores, Casie Kiel and Heather Mahoney contributed to this issue.
