Bari Out, Red Light In

Bar di Bari, Aaron Gordon's Italian cafe on 14th Street, is no more. He closed it in January and will reopen in April as Red Light Cocktails & Dessert Bar. The name is a thinly veiled nod to the area's seedy past; the concept is popular in major markets across the country (think Finale in Boston, Candybar in San Francisco, etc.). The dessert menu will be overseen by Robert Underwood, formerly of Komi and Marcel's. His daily-rotating menu will feature treats like black & tan donuts (ale batter beignets, chocolate stout filling) and abuelita's tres leches (toasted coconut cake, Zapaca rum.) The beverage program comes from brothers Ari and Micah Wilder, who opened Fed Restaurant last spring. In addition to wine and creative cocktails, the two are creating "adult" desserts combining cocktails with dessert. We're looking forward to the cake shake: red velvet cupcake, homemade ice cream, Atlantico dark rum, Velvet Felernum, and cocoa bitters.
