NoVa Takes Hard Look At Data Centers

70% of the world's Internet traffic flows through 50 data centers in Northern Virginia, taking up 7 million square feet. So the Northern Virginia Tech Council formed a 12-member committee, headed by Latisys' Jonathan Sharp and Loudoun County Economic Development's Buddy Rizer, to study the impact of that hum on the region and jobs. It'll also make sure NoVa has an infrastructure in place for the next 10 to 20 years to beat out other regions trying to build their own data center ecosystems. Bringing together all the players in the community--from cybersecurity experts to real estate people--is also a goal. The committee's first major event is June 5; experts will discuss trends affecting the data center boom.
