Will Florida Rock Get a Pop-up Beer Garden?

Since the western portion of the Florida Rock site along the Anacostia River can’t be built until the Douglass Bridge is demolished, developer MRP Realty is thinking of ways to use the area in the interim, reports JD Land. The current vision centers around an outdoor brew garden/neighborhood-oriented park. The pop-up beer garden would be run by Bardo’s brewing team, while the rest of the space would have sub-vendors offering activities like a putt-putt course or batting cages. The space would have a 1,000-person capacity, with picnic tables on the waterfront and food offerings either on-site or from food trucks. MRP is going to ANC 6D in the near future to discuss the possibilities and get feedback. Meanwhile, a 300-unit first-phase apartment building on the east portion of the 5.5-acre site is coming along nicely. The first phase will also include an expanded plaza, an extension of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, and a sand-covered area with volleyball courts, dubbed “The Beach.” [JDLand]
