The Northern Virginia office market will soon welcome another new nationally recognized company thanks to Monday Properties' 1812 North Moore office tower.

Gerber, an early childhood nutrition company owned by Nestlé, is joining its parent company in moving its headquarters to the Rosslyn building, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Monday.

The company, founded in 1928 in Michigan and acquired by Nestlé in 2007, is currently based in Florham Park, New Jersey. It will bring 150 jobs and invest $5M with its move. The commonwealth is providing an $862,500 grant for the project, and Gerber will be eligible for additional tax credits.

“Closer proximity to Nestlé USA’s new headquarters in Arlington will provide efficiencies that will be reinvested in our people, products and production to fuel growth,” Gerber CEO Bill Partyka said in a release. “Northern Virginia also offers a great quality of life for our employees and provides access to strong talent for our current and future needs.”

Nestlé signed on in early 2017 to anchor 1812 North Moore St., the 35-story, 537K SF office tower with a 250K SF lease. Gerber will open its office within that 250K SF footprint. Monday earlier this year signed healthcare technology company Cerner Corp. to a 38K SF lease in the building. The tower delivered in 2013 and sat vacant for four years before landing a tenant.

The deal continues the momentum for Northern Virginia's office market. NoVa recorded its best quarter since Q2 2010 with 866K SF of net absorption in Q1, according to Newmark Knight Frank, which measures absorption by move-ins. It also experienced a strong quarter for new leases, with 2.2M SF of leasing activity representing its second-best quarter in nine years, according to Cushman & Wakefield

“The company’s decision to reinvest and grow in the commonwealth is a powerful testament to the advantages of our strategic location, infrastructure and top-rated talent, and reaffirms that Virginia is a prime location for headquarters operations," Northam said. "We are proud that Nestlé USA calls Arlington County home, and we look forward to a successful corporate partnership with Gerber.”
