If residents of Forest Glen have their way, the area around the Forest Glen Metro station will transform into a walkable destination with plenty of retail options.
Forest Glen, a neighborhood north of Silver Spring, will be home to a future Purple Line station but has a current dearth of retail options, forcing residents to head to nearby Montgomery Hill. Residents recently held a meeting to discuss development options around the metro station, Greater Greater Washington reports. The station includes an eight-acre surface parking lot and a large bus loop that is largely unnecessary. An overwhelming majority of residents would like to see a walkable community with retail options developed on site. Preliminary thoughts and designs will be sent to Montgomery County and WMATA.
Walkability has been a popular theme for developers and a desired feature for residents. Just a little north of Forest Glen, 1788 Holdings has plans for a mixed-use development that will tap into residents desire for walkability. [GGW]
