What to Expect for the 11th Street Bridge

Those of you who complain there aren't enough green spaces in DC will soon rejoice. This morning, a design from firms OMA and Olin has been announced as the winner for the 11th Street Bridge Park project, which will connect the Navy Yard area in Southeast DC with the Anacostia neighborhood, replacing an older bridge that once stood in the same spot. This won't be just any old bridge: Netherlands-based OMA and Philly-based Olin's design includes an amphitheater, rain garden, cafe, and boat slips, among other features. Eighty design firms submitted proposals for the bridge design, and the submissions were whittled down to four finalists; OMA and Olin were selected as the winners by a panel of local officials and design experts.
