15 Things You Need to Know This Morning

What You Don’t Know About Joe Friedman

Title: Managing Director, Metropolis Capital Advisors.

Job: Investment sales broker with market niche in industrial, flex, neighborhood retail and suburban office in DC-Baltimore region between $5M-$25M. 
Years on the job: 15 in the industry; left big firm in December to launch MetCap Advisors, a boutique structured finance and investment sales firm, with Cliff Mendelson and MetCap Finance. 
Company: Six employees and growing; new platform should complete $600M-$700M in financing and investment sales transactions in 2016. 
Memorable project: Represented owner on both sides of a 1031 exchange, totaling nearly $100M. Completed sale of Spring Valley Retail Center and procured purchase of Class A office building in Alexandria. 
Current projects: Coming to market in February with a neighborhood retail center and a portfolio of net lease medical office in Northern Virginia.
CRE career: Started at CoStar before realizing doing deals would be more interesting than researching them. Landed job with CBRE investment sales team in DC. 
Grew up: Born on Capitol Hill near Eastern Market and grew up in Rockville.
Favorite childhood memory: Watching Joe Gibbs and the Redskins during the glory days. “Had a poster of ‘The Posse’ in my bedroom.”
Current home: Tenleytown.
Schools: University of Michigan (Tom Brady was a classmate) and Georgetown (masters in commercial real estate). 
Job in another life: Host an CNBC show like Marcus Lemonis with a little less crying.
Favorite app: SiriusXM—Howard Stern anytime, anyplace.
Favorite movie: Moneyball.
Favorite restaurant: Bottega in Napa. 
Favorite song and band: "Lightening Crashes" by Live.
Favorite vacation spot: Vieques, Puerto Rico. 
Favorite charity: Any focused on fighting cancer. 
Hidden talent: Rhythm.
Coast, desert, mountain: Coast.
Drink of choice: Dos Equis Amber, with a lime.
Couldn’t live without: Laughter.
Family: Girlfriend lives in LA but planning to move to DC by summer (despite recent blizzard). Parents are retired in Annapolis; brother and nieces live in Kensington.
Hobbies: Soul cycling, golf, Sunday Orioles games at Camden Yards (life-long fan).
Pet peeve: Closed-mindedness.
Startling fact: After moving back to DC from Ann Arbor, lived in all four quadrants of DC, including Southwest in 2002 and Columbia Heights in 2007.
