MRP In Talks With Alamo Drafthouse To Open At Rhode Island Center

Word emerged last month that MRP Realty was in talks to bring a high-end theater to Phase 2 of its Rhode Island Center project, and now there's word on which chain may be filling the slot.

Austin, TX-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is in talks with MRP to open a location at the massive mixed-use development in the Edgewood neighborhood of Northeast DC. The chain already has one location in the DC area at One Loudoun in Ashburn, and would ideally like to add another three in the region, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Alamo Drafthouse features a full-service food and beverage menu served to patrons at their seats. The majority of other Alamo locations also feature a bar in the lobby that serve both moviegoers and other customers. For Rhode Island Center, the theater would include at least eight screens and cover at least 44k SF.

In addition to its eight-screen theater in Ashburn, Alamo’s other nationwide locations include theaters in New York City, San Antonio and San Francisco. Other high-end theaters with a presence in the DC area include iPic and Landmark, and Forest City Washington has plans to add a Showplace ICON theater complex to The Yards. [WBJ]
