Peebles Corp Bringing The First SLS Luxe To DC

The Peebles Corp has selected SLS Hotels as the hotel operator for its project at Fifth and Eye St NW.

SBE, the parent company of SLS Hotels, is teaming up with Peebles for a 198-room SLS Lux Hotel, the Washington Business Journal reports. SLS Lux hotels are considered ultra-luxury. The first hotel to cary the SLS Lux tag is scheduled to open in Miami next year, with additional locations planned in Philadelphia and Seattle.

The hotel is expected to open in 2019 and will be the first SLS-branded hotel in the District. The SLS Lux will feature a high-end spa, executive meeting space for both guests and residents, and club areas for residents.

Additional plans for the project call for 59 condos, which will also carry the SLS brand. The residential portion will likely offer concierge and housekeeping services. The Fifth and Eye project is also slated to include about 7,600 SF of ground-floor retail. A restaurant is also on tap, but no operator has been selected yet.

Peebles secured the right to develop the District-owned property in Mount Vernon Triangle back in 2014 by agreeing to pay DC $28M for the 20k SF parcel. It has $3.5B in projects underway across the US. Company founder Don Peebles is thought to be a potential NYC mayoral candidate. [WBJ]
