A European hospitality chain that mixes private hotel rooms and shared hostel-style rooms is opening its second U.S. location in D.C.'s Dupont Circle neighborhood.

Generator will replace the Courtyard by Marriott at 1900 Connecticut Ave. NW and plans to open next year, the Washington Business Journal reports.

An entity controlled by Generator bought the 148-room hotel for $52M from Capstone in October. It has been a Courtyard by Marriott since it opened in 1999.

The company plans to spend between $8M and $10M renovating the hotel, focusing on new food and beverage concepts. It will add a new ground-floor restaurant and lobby café, a new rooftop bar and event space and a fourth-floor terrace bar and lounge. The concepts will be operated by Daniel Roy and Gui Jaroschy. Generator plans to keep operating the hotel during the renovation and begin introducing pieces of the project in May, with a grand opening planned at the end of 2019.

Generator has locations in Berlin, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Dublin, Hamburg, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Stockholm and Venice. It opened its first U.S. hotel in Miami in October. The Miami location includes a mix of private hotel rooms, starting at $95 per night, and shared hostel-style rooms with several beds that can be rented individually starting at $20/night.
