Bureau Of Economic Analysis Moving To Prince George’s County

The Department of Commerce is relocating its Bureau of Economic Analysis out of the District to Prince George’s County this summer.

The agency and its nearly 600 employees will move into the Suitland Federal Center in June, the Washington Post reports. The center is just off Suitland Parkway and is home to several federal agencies, including the Naval Maritime Intelligence Center, the US Census Bureau and NOAA’s satellite operations.

The BEA currently leases space in the 1400 block of L Street NW. Over the next 10 years, the move is expected to save $66M. Plans call for the BEA to work with the NOAA and Census to create a “commerce data campus,” according to a statement from US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.

With Metro access and an already large federal government presence, Suitland has been viewed as an area with some untapped potential, but that may be changing with the area’s re-envisioning as a mixed-use downtown and the luring of a federal agency from the District. [WaPo]
