Avison Young is continuing to bolster its D.C. capital markets team with a hire from a competing brokerage firm.

The firm announced Monday it hired Dean Sands, previously a director at Eastdil Secured, where he spent 18 years.

Sands will work in Avison Young's D.C. office as a principal on the firm's capital markets team. Avison Young's U.S. capital markets team is led by President John Kevill, who previously worked with Sands at Eastdil before switching firms in 2016.

"I’ve known Dean for many years, and his deep knowledge of all aspects of transactional real estate across asset classes helps expand our market presence as we deliver sound strategies for clients across the capital structure,” Kevill said in a release. “This is a game changing addition in Washington for Avison Young."

The hire is the latest in a series of additions for Avison Young's D.C. office. In February it brought on Jonathan Hipp, formerly the founder of Calkain Cos., to lead its new U.S. net lease group. That same month, it acquired D.C.-based property management firm BMS Realty Services, bringing on its 23 employees. In September, it hired Tim Hall from JLL as a principal on its capital markets team.

“The opportunity to join a rapidly growing Capital Markets platform at a collaborative and entrepreneurial firm like Avison Young was a real draw to me,” Sands said. “Avison Young’s investments in technology, data and research provide the foundation for the insights clients need to achieve their business goals and is completely aligned to how I approach client service.”
