West Queen West Seeking Historic Status

West Queen West is seeking Historic Conservation status.

Toronto City Planning is looking into designating West Queen West a Heritage Conservation District as a way to set rules for future developers.

A recent public meeting presented details of the ongoing study, which proposes giving HCD status to the street extending from Bathurst to Jameson. The diverse, often quirky stretch of downtown is made up largely of small brick storefronts and walk-up apartments.

A HDC designation would not give all Queen West buildings heritage status, but would set some rules on how development will be handled in the future. West Queen West was dubbed the second coolest neighbourhood in the world by Vogue Magazine in 2014.

Further study and meetings are scheduled before the plan goes before city council.
