Think of city hall, and you probably imagine bureaucracy at its best. Thanks to Cooper Carry, old school is shedding its offices and joining the live/work/play generation. Interior design director and principal Kim Rousseau (far right, here with interior designer Gary Elder and associate Audrey Hardestry) says that the design collaboration with Milton City architect Bob Buscemi will result in a city hall that is anything but standard and municipal; it will reflect the very hottest trends and tastes of the Millennial workforce, while reflecting the community focus. That means transparent workspaces, industrial style, high ceilings and a work café where the staff can collaborate. Kim says they are adding an innovation lab, where new businesses and residents can collaborate with city officials in an open, co-working environment. Other trends Kim is seeing in Atlanta include mid-tier tech firms (not exactly Google-sized, but rapidly growing) that want a quasi-HQ in an existing building, with lots of amenities. Also trending is transit-oriented design; building owners are now OK with public transit like MARTA dropping off a young, highly desired, car-rejecting workforce into a private space.
