Uber Expands Into Palo Alto With Major New Lease

The talent war in Silicon Valley shows no signs of winding down. Uber has opened another front with offices at the Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto.

The firm subleased 140k SF at 900 Arastradero Road from VMware, reports the San Francisco Business Times. The property likely commanded a rent of $78/SF.

Companies are increasingly offering short commute times as a top amenity. Eliminating a draining commute from the Peninsula to San Francisco could be a win for a company focused on making sure employees are at their most productive.

A convenient location allows Uber to compete with other Silicon Valley companies, such as Google and Facebook, in drawing talent. A comparable commute makes switching from Google to Uber that much easier. [SFBT]
