Award-Winning Building Offers Fast Housing Solution In Tight Urban Spaces

In the search for a new way to build small multifamily structures quickly, DCI Engineers and Sustainable Living Innovations created a system used for an award-winning building in Seattle that could provide a solution in locations with limited space to build, such as the Bay Area.

The American Council of Engineering Companies awarded DCI and SLI its Best in Washington State Gold award for unique or innovative applications for the structural design of the six-story apartment building, called 47+7 and located on a 60' x 107' lot in Seattle's dense University District.

DCI designed structural connections for a kit of parts using SLI's prefabricated panelized components. The result is construction that speeds the building process and is targeted toward land parcels less than 8k SF. Builders were able to top out 47+7 in less than six months, 50% faster than conventional vertical construction.
