La Boulange Founder Buys Back South S.F. Production Bakery

Placeholder

La Boulange founder Pascal Rigo has bought back the 70k SF production bakery at 320B Shaw Rd in South San Francisco that once supplied his bakery businesses and wholesale clients.

The bakery will be used to supply the reopened La Boulangerie de San Francisco chain (the location on Pine Sreet, home to the original La Boulange shop, shown above early last year, reopened in October) and a new meal delivery business called Munchery. Munchery is growing, opening a new 30k SF kitchen at 220 Shaw Rd, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

The bakery previously operated baking wholesale goods as Bay Bread Co, followed by the La Boulange bakeries until that chain was acquired by Starbucks for $100M in 2012. Starbucks closed all 23 La Boulange locations last year, leaving the coffee company with the recipes, but not the operating overhead. [SFBT]
