The $3B redevelopment of the Vallco Shopping Mall includes plans to create the world’s largest green roof. Sand Hill Property Co plans a 30-acre green space for its Cupertino property, which would surpass the current record-holder, the 24.5-acre Millenium Park in Chicago.
Plans call for 3.8 miles of jogging and walking trails, vineyards and organic gardens and the use of recycled water for internal systems. Architect Rafael Vinoly is collaborating with OLIN Landscape Architects to design the project.
Sand Hill purchased the property late last year for $316M. The lower level of the mall has been empty for more than 10 years. Vacancy in the mall will rise above 50% next month when Sears closes. [MHN]
