Stanford Coming To Redwood City

Placeholder

Stanford University is set to expand into Redwood City with a $568M office project for the school’s 2,400 employees. The expansion marks a rare venture outside of Palo Alto for the famous Bay Area college.

The offices will be built on the 35-acre former home of web 1.0 giant ExiteAtHome, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Stanford has been planning the expansion north since 2004, and was mulling sites in Mountain View before selecting Redwood City.

Although the recession delayed the move, the city approved Stanford’s plans for offices in 2013. The school agreed to provide $15M in community benefits. Office development in Redwood City has proven contentious in the past as residents protest rising home prices and traffic.

Groundbreaking is expected this fall with construction finishing in 2019. [SFC]
