First Look: Uber's Mission Bay HQ

First renderings are out for the ride share firm's new HQ, which includes the two Third Street buildings bought in a JV between Alexandria Real Estate and Uber for $125M last year. The plan is to break ground late this year for an occupancy by the end of 2017 or start of 2018, reports the San Francisco Business Times. Uber has been on a leasing rampage over the past year to accommodate growth needs and now rents about 500k SF across three Market Street buildings.

The complex was designed by SHoP Architects and interior designer Studio O+A. The design process took longer in part because Uber and Alexandria butted heads with Gensler, which was originally hired to design the building, Socketsite reported. Last year Bisnow stopped by Studio O+A's SoMa digs and hung out in the kitchen with principal Primo Orpilla, who planted his design flag in downtown S.F. with his wife in 1997 and has since racked up big-name clients like Facebook and Yelp.
